description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.3.0) Enables DNA binding activity; chromatin binding activity; and transcription coactivator activity. Involved in positive regulation of apoptotic process and positive regulation of neuron differentiation. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cellular response to Thyroglobulin triiodothyronine; labyrinthine layer morphogenesis; and regulation of thyroid hormone receptor signaling pathway. Part of transcription regulator complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; early conceptus; eye; and genitourinary system. Used to study obesity and thyroid hormone resistance syndrome. Orthologous to human NCOA1 (nuclear receptor coactivator 1). PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for a null allele show osteopenia, increased serum sex hormone levels, altered bone remodeling and skeletal responses to sex hormones, and obesity. Homozygotes for another null allele show thyroid and steroid hormone resistance, delayed Purkinje cell development, and behavioral deficits. [provided by MGI curators] |
