Protein Coding Gene : Plscr3 phospholipid scramblase 3

Primary Identifier  MGI:1917560 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  11 NCBI Gene Number  70310
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Predicted to enable calcium-dependent protein binding activity; metal ion binding activity; and phospholipid scramblase activity. Involved in apoptotic process and cellular response to lipopolysaccharide. Acts upstream of or within cholesterol homeostasis and glucose homeostasis. Located in mitochondrion and nucleus. Is expressed in ductus deferens; lower urinary tract; testis; and thyroid gland. Used to study obesity. Orthologous to human PLSCR3 (phospholipid scramblase 3).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mice display lipid-engorged adipocytes, increased abdominal fat stores, mild hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance, altered plasma adiponectin and leptin levels, and impaired insulin-stimulated glucose uptake by adipocytes.
