Protein Coding Gene : Tjp1 tight junction protein 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:98759 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  21872
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables connexin binding activity and protein domain specific binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of stress fiber assembly; positive regulation of sprouting angiogenesis; and protein localization to cell-cell junction. Acts upstream of or within blastocyst formation and sensory perception of sound. Located in several cellular components, including apicolateral plasma membrane; bicellular tight junction; and intercellular canaliculus. Part of protein-containing complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; central nervous system; early conceptus; genitourinary system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human TJP1 (tight junction protein 1).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a null allele show embryonic lethality and growth retardation, failure of embryo turning and chorioallantoic fusion, defective yolk sac angiogenesis, and increased apoptosis in the notochord, neural tube, somite and allantois. Homozygotes for a reporter allele are overtly normal. [provided by MGI curators]
