Protein Coding Gene : Adamts1 ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:109249 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  16 NCBI Gene Number  11504
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.4.0)

Enables heparin binding activity and metalloendopeptidase activity. Acts upstream of or within heart trabecula formation; kidney development; and ovulation from ovarian follicle. Located in basement membrane and cytoplasmic vesicle. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; cardiovascular system; central nervous system; genitourinary system; and sensory organ. Used to study urinary tract obstruction. Orthologous to human ADAMTS1 (ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 1).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for targeted mutations that inactivate the gene display growth retardation with adipose tissue malformation, impaired female fertility, enlarged renal calices and abnormal adrenal medullary architecture. [provided by MGI curators]
