PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for targeted mutations exhibit severe hypothyroidism due to thyroid follicular cell aplasia, male infertility, deafness, ataxia, growth retardation, tiny spleens, impaired ossification of long bones and maturation of the small intestine, fatty livers, and lethality around weaning age.
