abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: cs. A coat color variant carried by the POLY2 < 100/St strain (descended from mouse No. 46801 of L.C. Strong's stock treated with 3-methylcholanthreneand selected for maternal age at birth of the first litter) has been found to be a c-allele. We are calling it cs after L.C. Strong. It is a semidominant, similar in depth of color to cch on a a/a B/B background but more yellow. The allele dilutes phaeomelanin from yellow to white, and eumelanin slightly to a deep yellow-brown. Eye color does not appear to be affected. Cs P/cs p animals are like c/c, and Ay/a cs/cs animals are pale pink-orange. Mice homozygous for cs, or heterozygous for cs and ce, ch, cp, or c show a molting pattern in which the coat darkens in patches with age, reminiscent of ch/ch mice housed in variable temperature. (S.
