| abstractText | MGI has a separate load from Ensembl for mouse strain genome sequence data and annotations of assembled strain genomes other than the reference (C57BL/6J) mouse strain. MGI creates strain-specific genome features (genes, pseudogenes, etc.) and associates these strain-specific features with Ensembl gene IDs, genome coordinates, gene model sequences, and feature biotypes as provided by Ensembl. MGI associates these strain-specific genome features to MGI gene records using cross-references to gene identifiers (Ensembl gene, NCBI gene, MGI) or gene nomenclature of the reference (C57BL/6J) mouse strain, present in the strain gff3 files. The load imposes a limit of 3 for the number of strain genome features from the same strain associated to a single MGI gene record. Note that MGI obtains genome feature information for the C67BL/6J reference strain from many sources, separate from this load that is focused on the other assembled mouse strain genomes.
