Protein Coding Gene : Sgk1 serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:1340062 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  10 NCBI Gene Number  20393
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables protein kinase activity. Acts upstream of or within DNA damage response and cellular response to aldosterone. Predicted to be located in cytosol; nuclear speck; and perinuclear region of cytoplasm. Predicted to be active in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; cardiovascular system; eye; limb interdigital region mesenchyme; and respiratory system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in hypertension. Orthologous to human SGK1 (serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous knockout results in reduced sensitivity to hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension, inflammation and cardiac ventricular hypertrophy. But otherwise mice display an essentially normal phenotype. Sodium retention is compromised on a low salt diet. [provided by MGI curators]
