description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Involved in homologous chromosome orientation in meiotic metaphase I and regulation of meiosis I spindle assembly checkpoint. Located in kinetochore. Is expressed in several structures, including early conceptus; heart valve; nervous system; oocyte; and retina. Orthologous to human ZWINT (ZW10 interacting kinetochore protein). PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit complete embryonic lethality prior to organogenesis. Although blastocysts hatch from the zona pellucida with apparent trophectoderm and primitive endoderm cells, inner cell mass and epiblast cells form smaller outgrowth colonies.
