Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Predicted to enable myosin binding activity. Involved in synapse maturation. Acts upstream of or within cell-cell adhesion and chordate embryonic development. Located in nucleus and plasma membrane. Part of stereocilia ankle link complex. Is active in glutamatergic synapse and postsynapse. Is expressed in several structures, including cardiovascular system; genitourinary system; gut; nervous system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human VEZT (vezatin, adherens junctions transmembrane protein). PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a null allele develop to the blastocyst stage inducing a decidual response but die at implantation. Only about half of blastocysts are able to hatch upon in vitro culture and mutant outgrowths show severe defects in intercellular adhesion and signs of cellular degeneration.
