Primary Identifier | MGI:99675 | Organism | mouse, laboratory |
Chromosome | 12 | NCBI Gene Number | 104111 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables adenylate cyclase activity. Involved in several processes, including cAMP biosynthetic process; cellular response to forskolin; and olfactory learning. Acts upstream of or within sensory perception of smell. Located in ciliary membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; cardiovascular system; genitourinary system; nervous system; and sensory organ. Used to study major depressive disorder. Orthologous to human ADCY3 (adenylate cyclase 3). PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for one mutation of this gene display impaired olfaction and disorganization of glomeruli in the main olfactory bulb. Mutant animals also appear to be sterile as homozygous matings failed to produce litters. Mice with another mutant allele fail to survive beyond weaning. [provided by MGI curators] |
