Chromosome | 12 | NCBI Gene Number | 19088 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables cAMP-dependent protein kinase regulator activity and protein kinase binding activity. Involved in modulation of chemical synaptic transmission. Acts upstream of or within fatty acid metabolic process and learning. Located in ciliary base; cytoplasm; and dendrite. Part of cAMP-dependent protein kinase complex. Is active in glutamatergic synapse and postsynapse. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; liver; primary palate; retina; and testis. Orthologous to human PRKAR2B (protein kinase cAMP-dependent type II regulatory subunit beta). PHENOTYPE: Homozygou null mice are lean, weigh less than controls, and have reduced white fat pad size. Mice are resistant to both diet-induced obesity and to diet-induced insulin resistance. Mice show impaired coordination and increased sensitivity to chronic amphetamine exposure.
