Protein Coding Gene : Ncaph2 non-SMC condensin II complex, subunit H2

Primary Identifier  MGI:1289164 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  15 NCBI Gene Number  52683
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Predicted to enable chromatin binding activity. Involved in meiotic chromosome condensation; nuclear chromosome segregation; and regulation of chromosome segregation. Acts upstream of or within T cell differentiation in thymus. Located in condensed nuclear chromosome. Part of condensin complex. Is active in chromosome and nucleus. Is expressed in cerebral cortex ventricular layer; cortical plate; and embryo. Orthologous to human NCAPH2 (non-SMC condensin II complex subunit H2).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for an ENU-induced single point mutation display a specific defect in T cell development but are otherwise viable, fertile and overtly healthy with no apparent defects in B cell development. Homozygous null mice die before E12.5. [provided by MGI curators]
