Protein Coding Gene : Rapgef3 Rap guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) 3

Primary Identifier  MGI:2441741 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  15 NCBI Gene Number  223864
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activity. Involved in associative learning. Predicted to be located in several cellular components, including basolateral part of cell; brush border membrane; and distal axon. Predicted to be active in plasma membrane. Predicted to colocalize with cortical actin cytoskeleton. Is expressed in brain; heart; lens; lung; and metanephros. Orthologous to human RAPGEF3 (Rap guanine nucleotide exchange factor 3).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit decreased induced neuron apoptosis. Mice homozygous for a different allele exhibit impaired glucose homeostasis with decreased insulin secretion, increased susceptibility to diet-induced obesity and streptozotocin-induced insulitis and hyperglycemia.
