Acts upstream of or within cellular response to leukemia inhibitory factor and regulation of SMAD protein signal transduction. Is expressed in several structures, including eye; gonad; hemolymphoid system gland; liver; and lung. Orthologous to human MIR185 (microRNA 185).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a null allele do not exhibit spontaneous phenotypes. Ovariectomized females show decreased osteoporosis development and primary osteoblasts and mesenchymal stem cells show enhanced osteogenesis in culture. [provided by MGI curators]
