Protein Coding Gene : Spdya speedy/RINGO cell cycle regulator family, member A

Primary Identifier  MGI:1918141 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  17 NCBI Gene Number  70891
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables protein kinase activator activity and protein kinase binding activity. Involved in male meiotic nuclear division. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including chromosome organization; establishment of protein localization to telomere; and spermatogenesis. Located in XY body; chromosome, telomeric region; and nuclear envelope. Is expressed in reproductive system. Orthologous to human SPDYA (speedy/RINGO cell cycle regulator family member A).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous inactivation of this gene results in impaired telomere attachment to the nuclear envelope during early meiosis, abnormal chromosome pairing and homologous synapsis, and meiotic prophase I arrest in male and female germ cells leading to infertility in both sexes.
