description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; DNA-binding transcription repressor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; and RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II and positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; central nervous system; genitourinary system; heart; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human ESRRA (estrogen related receptor alpha). PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mice for one mutation were viable but showed reduced weight gain associated with decreased peripheral fat deposition. Mutant mice were resistant to high-fat diet induced obesity. Another targeted mutation resulted in no significant abnormalities in homozygotes. [provided by MGI curators] |
