Protein Coding Gene : Prkcq protein kinase C, theta

Primary Identifier  MGI:97601 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  2 NCBI Gene Number  18761
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables diacylglycerol-dependent serine/threonine kinase activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of T-helper 17 type immune response; regulation of cell-cell adhesion; and regulation of gene expression. Acts upstream of or within intracellular signal transduction; positive regulation of CD4-positive, alpha-beta T cell proliferation; and positive regulation of interleukin-2 production. Located in cytoplasm and immunological synapse. Is expressed in several structures, including adipose tissue; genitourinary system; gut; limb; and nervous system. Used to study retinal detachment. Orthologous to human PRKCQ (protein kinase C theta).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for targeted null mutations exhibit reduced T cell proliferative responses and interleukin 2 production and a lack of T cell receptor-initiated NF-kappaB activation in mature T lymphocytes. [provided by MGI curators]
