Protein Coding Gene : Gpr88 G-protein coupled receptor 88

Primary Identifier  MGI:1927653 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  3 NCBI Gene Number  64378
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables cytoskeletal motor activity. Involved in motor learning. Acts upstream of or within locomotory behavior; neuromuscular process controlling balance; and neuronal action potential. Predicted to be located in ciliary membrane; cytoplasm; and nucleus. Predicted to be active in plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; ear; genitourinary system; nervous system; and skeleton. Orthologous to human GPR88 (G protein-coupled receptor 88).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a null allele show enhanced medium spiny neuron activity, hyperactivity, impaired motor coordination, and altered motor- and cue-based learning. Homozygotes for a different null allele show a motor skill deficit, enhanced spatial learning, stereotypies, and lower anxiety levels. [provided by MGI curators]
