description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Involved in regulation of cilium beat frequency; regulation of flagellated sperm motility; and sperm axoneme assembly. Located in axoneme and ciliary basal body. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; nasal cavity; pharynx; reproductive system; and respiratory system. Orthologous to human CFAP206 (cilia and flagella associated protein 206). PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for a null allele show impaired mucociliary clearance, hydrocephaly, brain ventricle dilation and stenosis, and male sterility with asthenospermia and malformed sperm flagella. Males homozygous for another null allele are also sterile with similar sperm defects but no extra-reproductive phenotypes. [provided by MGI curators] |
