Protein Coding Gene : Atp5if1 ATP synthase inhibitory factor subunit 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:1196457 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  4 NCBI Gene Number  11983
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Predicted to enable several functions, including ATPase binding activity; angiostatin binding activity; and calmodulin binding activity. Involved in erythrocyte differentiation and heme biosynthetic process. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization involved in apoptotic signaling pathway and reactive oxygen species metabolic process. Located in mitochondrion. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; craniocervical region bone; foregut; retina; and submandibular gland primordium. Orthologous to human ATP5IF1 (ATP synthase inhibitory factor subunit 1).
PHENOTYPE: Knockout mice exhibit normal growth and breeding but are protected from TAC-pressure overload and isoproterenol infusion-induced cardiac hypertrophy. A different KO reduces neutrophil levels and leads to resistance to DSS-induced colitis and increased susceptibility to diet-induced obesity. [provided by MGI curators]
