Chromosome | 5 | NCBI Gene Number | 14284 |
Mgi Type | protein coding gene |
description | FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0) Enables RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity and chromatin binding activity. Involved in positive regulation of DNA-templated transcription. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cartilage development; leukocyte differentiation; and lung development. Located in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; skeleton; skin; and telencephalon. Used to study idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and systemic scleroderma. Orthologous to human FOSL2 (FOS like 2, AP-1 transcription factor subunit). PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for disruptions in this gene die within one week after birth and show postnatal growth retardation. Further analysis of one allele showed abnormal cartilage development, with delayed bone ossification and impaired chondrocyte differentiation. [provided by MGI curators] |
