Protein Coding Gene : Zfp568 zinc finger protein 568

Primary Identifier  MGI:2142347 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  243905
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables transcription cis-regulatory region binding activity and transcription corepressor binding activity. Involved in embryonic placenta morphogenesis and negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Acts upstream of or within convergent extension involved in axis elongation; convergent extension involved in neural plate elongation; and regulation of cell communication. Located in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; retina; and skeletal musculature.
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mutants are embryonic lethal with growth arrest around E8.5-9.0. Mutant embryo shows shortened anterior-posterior axial extension with defects in somites and midline structures including open gut tube, cardia bifida, and failure to closeneural tube.
