Polymorphic Pseudogene : Art2a ADP-ribosyltransferase 2a

Primary Identifier  MGI:107546 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 Mgi Type  polymorphic pseudogene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables NAD+-protein-arginine ADP-ribosyltransferase activity and hydrolase activity, acting on glycosyl bonds. Involved in NAD catabolic process. Located in external side of plasma membrane.
PHENOTYPE: A targeted mutation in this gene indirectly regulates T-cell apoptosis. [provided by MGI curators]
specificity  Sequence analysis of the endogenous loci of C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice revealed 9 nucleotide differences between the two backgrounds. Codon 481 on the C57BL/6 background encodes an in-frame stop signal, putatively precluding the translation of the essential glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor. Protein was undetected by Western blot analysis of COS1 cells transfected with the C57BL/6 variant. The absence of functional protein was confirmed by a lack of ADP-ribosyltransferase activity in the COS1 cells.
