abstractText  We have studied changes in gene expression between normal and nude mouse skin. Using the method of representational difference analysis, a cDNA encoding a novel serine protease designated BSSP was cloned. Our results show that in skin this gene is predominantly expressed in the sebaceous gland of the hair follicle and in the distal part of the outer root sheath. Thus, BSSP is the first serine protease known to be expressed in the sebaceous gland. In nude mouse skin, this gene is overexpressed. Copyright 1999 Academic Press.
