abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: New mutant: A new recessive mutation, depilated (dep), arose in our T tf/+ tf stock in 1966. Homozygotes have hair that is abnormally thin and short from the time it first appears. Affected mice are quite variable in appearance, some being nearly hairless at 3 weeks, others having a fairly substantial coat. The hair has a matted greasy appearance and does not appear to molt regularly. In sections and whole mounts of skin, excessive accumulation of clumps of pigment in the hair can be seen. Depilated is linked to Pt in linkage group VIII with 6.5% recombination (26/400), probably on the same side as b.
