New spontaneous "short-tail" type mutation : reported in MNL 48:38, the dominant "short-tail" mutation which appeared in our Swiss/Orl non-inbred stock is in the process of being backcrossed (N4) to the C57BL/6JOrl strain. We do not maintain yet a brachyury (T) mutant stock to perform a test of allelism. Meanwhile two replications of the cross male "short-tail" by female "quaking" (qk/qk) have been made to test a possible linkage between both markers. Results are rather unexpected since 8 phenotypically "short-tail" "quaking" animals and 19 phenotypically normal animals have been observed in the F1 progeny. So this particular "short-tail" mutation acts as if it would allow the recessive gene qk to be expressed in a heterozygous state. Additional F1 progeny is required to ascertain that no other phenotypes would appear. |
