abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 4) A fully penetrant recessive mutant, provisionally called "seal", occurred in the multiple recessive PCT Stock. It resembles dy in that there is a progressive paralysis of the hind-limbs, but is more severe, with death at about three weeks. The first signs of abnormality appear at about the age of one week, seals tending to feel softer and more floppy than normals, as if lacking muscle tone. Later a shakiness develops; as the hind-legs become more and more helpless progression is with a wriggling seal-like movement, with the head going up and down. Crosses between dy and seal heterozygotes have yielded no evidence for allelism. (Searle) |
