abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Mutants added: Dr. Dorothea Starbuck Miller of the Whitman Laboratory, University of Chicago, reported several new nutants in an abstract in Radiation Research 19: 184-185 (1963). She turned over to me 4 of these in 1963: 1) "White diamond on belly in C57BL/6, homozygote albino, viable and fertile". This mutant was named "white spot" by Dr. Miller. It shows no dilution in heterozygotes. She also noted a tendency to some microphthalmia in homozygotes. With the assistance of Miss Margrith Wehrli (graduate student) in Ames, it was found that this is an allele of the mi locus: the heterozygote with mibw is blackeyed white, and the heterozygote with miwh is white with a number of dark patches and dark eyes. The symbol miws is proposed for Dr. Miller's mutant. |
