abstractText | Research news: 1) New mutants. c) Muted, provisional symbol mu. This name and symbol are suggested for an autosomal recessive gene which mutated spontaneously in a stock of t-alleles. Homozygotes have light eyes at birth and fur of a muted brown shade, often with white underfur. In addition, the gene resembles pa in that some animals have a balance defect, including head-tilting and lack of postural reflexes, which is due to essence of otoliths from one or both ears. Muted is not allelic with pa, nor with a, b, bg, c, ep, ln, Miwh, p, pe, ru, slt, or Wv; it shows no linkage with Re, Ra, Wv, b, fz, lm or v. (Lyon, Meredith) |
