abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: The genetic basis of susceptibility and resistance of mice to the Gross and Friend leukemia viruses is being studied. Resistance to the Gross virus requires the simultaneous presence of two dominant genes. Susceptibility is determined by either one of the recessive alleles. One of these, rgv-1, may be within the complex H-2 locus in chromosome IX while the other, rgv-2 segregates independently. A major determinant of susceptibility to the Friend virus is loosely linked to H-2. Tests are now underway to find out on which side of H-2 this gene is located. The H-6 locus has been found to be linked to agouti in linkage group V. A recessive coat - colour mutation phenotypically identical to ruby-eye occurred in a substrain of C57BL. Preliminary studies have located the new mutant - tentatively called ru-2 - near pink-eye in linkage group I. (F. Lilly) |
