abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research Notes: 1 . Possibility that Sl is in chromosome 10. Several "Steeloid, Sld" translocations that have been found in the course of mutation-rate experiments have the S1/+ phenotype, and in some cases have been tested to be allelic with, or closely linked to, Sl (crosses of Sld/Sl, where this is fertile, x +/+ have yielded no wild-type progeny). We have now cytologically examined four such Sld translocations using QM-banding techniques. In all four, one of the chromosomes involved is No. 10, and the other is No. 5, 12, 17, and 18, respectively, in the four different translocations. The Sl locus has previously been assigned to LGIV (Biol. of the Laboratory Mouse, p. 128), which has not yet been matched with a chromosome of the standard karyotype. We are now testing the possibility that a l l or part of LGIV, as well as LGX, are located in chromosome 10. (Cacheiro and L.B. Russell) |
