| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: c) Panda, a new steel allele. Haematological studies on the male-fertile black-eared and black-eyed white mutant sl<11H> (MNL 73: 17) have shown that the homozygote suffers from mild macrocytic anaemia, with RBC values from 6.3 to 8.6 x 10<-9>ml<-1> and mean cell volumes from 63 to 50 um<3> in 10 mice. This contrasts with mean values of 10.0 +/- 0.2 x 10<9> for RBC's and 47.6 +/- 0.8 um<3> for mean cell volumes in wild type mice. Treatment with gonadotrophins has failed to overcome the sterility of homozygous females. In future Sll<11H> will be known as panda, Sl<pan>, in view of the homozygote's characteristic pattern of head pigmentation and its clear-cut differences from other Sl mutants.
