abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: 1. New mutants and linkages: c. New allele of waved-1 with open eyelids at birth. A spontaneous mutation in the BXD-32 RI strain has proved to be allelic with waved-1 (wa-1). The mutant, which has short kinky hair and open eyelids at birth, segregates as an autosomal recessive with complete penetrance. Survival and fertility are good although mutants are smaller than their normal littermates. It has been assigned the symbol wa-15J. Unlike wa-1 and wa-2 in which eye defects are manifested in only some homozygotes, mice homozygous for wa-15J invariably have bilateral eye defects. We do not know whether the complete penetrance of the eye defects is attributable to the genetic background or to the mutant allele per se. DNA from this mutation has been preserved. We intend to discard this mutation soon. Anyone who wishes to obtain breeding pairs from this stock should contact us right away. (B.A. Taylor and J.M. Ivey)
