abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: 2. Remutation to caracul. A remutation to caracul (Ca) on Chromosome 15 was found in the B10.D2/oSnJ colony of Animal Resources by Ms. Jean Kelley. A heterozygous dominant male from the B10.D2/ oSnJ strain was mated to a known homozygous (Ca9J/Ca9J) female maintained on BALB/ cByJ. Six Fl hybrids were mated to C57BL/6J normals. Four test matings yielded both +/+ and Ca9J/? pups in a one to one ratio and were discarded as they indicated that the hybrid parent did not carry the Nm allele. Two matings yielded a total of 102 progeny and all were affected. Since there were no crossovers (no +/+ pups) from these two matings, the unknown mutation is at least within one centimorgan of the caracul locus and presumed to be a remutation. Since the phenotype produced by the new allele, named Ca11J, is the typical waved coat and the curved vibrissae of former remutations, no embryos will be cryopreserved. DNA will be available from The Jackson Laboratory DNA Resource. (Susan A. Cook) |
