abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: Mapping studies of the radiation-induced lethal deletions at the albino locus have shown that shaker-1 on one side and taupe on the other side are not included in the deletion. Myoblasts homozygous for the mutation mdg accomplish considerably more differentiation in vitro than in vivo. Mutant muscle fibers become striated quite regularly, indicating the presence of muscle proteins. However, as yet no contraction has been observed in these mutant fibers. Electronmicroscopic studies of pigment granules in the retinal pigment epithelium from embryos homozygous for the radiation-induced albino alleles have identified differences in the effects of the different mutations on granule size and shape. A new neurological mutation has been identified and named "flopsy". It seems to be due to an autosomal recessive. Studies of genetic determinants of virus susceptibility, immunological response, and histocompatibility are being continued. |
