abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: I. Eye-ear reduction, Ie, is a sex-linked, male-viable mutation that arose following irradiation of spermatogonia. Males and homozygous females are anophthalmic, and the external ear is greatly reduced and malformed (thickened, crinkled edges). In heterozygous females, the phenotype varies from a barely perceptible notch in the rim of the pinna through various degrees of ear reduction and microphthalmia. These may be asymmetrical. Occasional Ie/+ females are normal; and occasional ones have the typical hemi- or homozygous phenotype. Ie/+, Ie/Y, and Ie/Ie animals appear to be normally viable and fertile. Ie lies between Gs and spf, probably fairly close to Bn. (Patricia Hunsicker) |
