abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 6. Close linkage of bareskin (Bsk) and rex (Re). Bareskin (Bsk) (MNL 71: 26) is closely linked to Re on chromosome 11. In backcrosses of Bsk+/+Re to wild-type there have so far been no crossovers among 163 offspring, 87 Bsk+ and 76 +Re. This close linkage of a gene causing loss of fur with a dominant hair-waving gene is interesting, because a similar group of genes is already known on chr. 15. Here caracul (Ca), with an effect very similar to that of Re, shows close linkage with two dominant hair-loss genes, naked (N) and shaven (Sha). This raises the possibility that there are two gene families, on chrs. 11 and 15, both coding for proteins involved in the structure of hair. In view of the strong similarity in effect between Bsk and furloss (Frl) (MNL 71: 26), furloss should now be tested for linkage with Re. (Lyon, Zenthon) |
