abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News. 1. New mutants. b) Bareskin (Bsk). Two mutant animals found among the offspring of a male treated with 250 mg/kg ENU. Heterozygotes first detectable by a somewhat thickened skin, thrown into folds, at about two weeks of age. At three weeks the coat appears sparse, rather like the coat of ragged (Ra). With increasing age the coat becomes progressively thinner so that in the adult the skin is bare, with some hair remaining on the snout. Some animals develop marked corneal opacities, beginning at about 2 months. Homozygotes resemble heterozygotes and are viable and fertile. The gene is not allelic with hr, N, Ra, or Sha, on grounds of linkage or direct tests. There is no evidence of linkage with hr, s, T, Ca, Xt, Sl, Os, Eso, a. The description strongly resembles that of furloss (Frl) Stelzner, K.F., J. Hered. 74:193, 1983) but tests of allelism have not been possible. (Lyon and Glenister) |
