abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 1. New mutants and linkages. a. Subtle gray (sut). This new recessive mutation arose in a subline of C3H/HeSnJ. Homozygotes have reduced yellow hair pigment but the black pigment seems unaffected. The difference between mutant and normal is most noticable in the juvenile agouti coat. On a non-agouti background homozygotes are difficult to discern but some reduction in yellow pigment can be seen in the pinna hairs. Subtle gray is located on Chr 3 probably close to the Es-16 locus. In 64 F2 sut/sut mice (128 chromosomes) from a cross between C3H/HeSnJ sut and Cast/Ei tested for Car-1 there were 11 crossovers giving a recombination estimate of 8.6 +/- 2.5% and in 54 F2 sut/sut mice (108 chromosomes) tested for Amy-1 there were 30 crossovers giving an estimated recombination of 27.8 +/- 4.3%. b. Small with kinky tail (skt). This new recessive skeletal mutation arose in a research stock, LT.MA. It produces a smaller than normal mouse with a kinky tail. Although smaller the skt/skt mouse appears to be of normal proportions and only the caudal vertebrae are affected. It is located very close to p on Chr 7. In a repulsion intercross with p 405 mice were raised with 218 + +, 122 p +, 64 + skt, 1 p skt giving an estimated recombination with p of 11.0 +/- 5.0%. Thirty one F2 mice (p +/p ? or + skt/? skt) or 62 chromosomes were tested for single crossovers and none were found. This gives a recombination estimate of 4.7 +/- 2.0% as the upper limit at a 95% confidence level. (Lane) |
