abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: 1. New spontaneous "short-tail" type mutation: the results of crosses reported in MNL 49:42, suggest that this mutation is not a point mutation but most probably a rearrangement involving both the T and qk loci in LG IX. 2. New pleiotropic mutations: a spontaneous autosomal recessive mutation has occurred in our C3H/HeJOrl strain. Homozygotes of 11 days of age are recognizable by a retarded growth of the ventral coat. Adult mice show a spaarse fur, females being more affected than males. Whereas homozygous female mice appeared normally fertile, homozygous males are sterile without any spermatozoa in testis or epididymis. The provisional symbol olt (oligotriche) has been given to the mutation. Linkage tests involving some biochemical markers are in progress.
