abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: svs: a new mutation affecting seminal vesicle shape. CXBI/ByEss mice have seminal vesicles that are tubular and almost without surface irregularities whilst those of other strains of mice have a convoluted surface. Crosses with BALB/cByEss, C56BL/6ByEss and their reciprocal F1 hybrids all had normal seminal vesicles, ruling out a simple recombinational origin for the phenotype and indicating the presence of a homozygous recessive mutation in CXBI. Testcrosses of the CXBI hybrids to CXBI produced 57 male progeny, of which 44% showed tubular seminal vesicles. The mutant phenotype showed a non-random association with albinism, suggesting linkage with C. This is being investigated further in a three-point cross involving Gpi. We propose the name, seminal vesicle shape, and symbol, svs, for the recessive mutation. (N. Shukri, F.C. Grew & J.G.M. Shire)
