abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: New mutants: 2. Muscular dystrophy with myositis (mdm). This new juvenile lethal recessive mutation arose in C57BL/6J in 1982. The affected mouse can be recognized by 12 days of age by an unusual stiff and humpback posture. The entire thoracic and lumbar spine shows an exaggerated convex curvature. When standing on all four feet the animal's body resembles a high bridge. Homozygotes become very stiff and immobile and most are dead by 2 months of age. Histological sections show a severe muscular degeneration with acute and chronic myositis. The mutation has been located on Chr. 2. A partial backcross in coupling with Sd produced 141 Sd +, 166 + +, 15 Sd mdm, 79 + mdm (total 401) for an RF of 26.0 +/- 3.9% using Fisher's scores as prepared by Green. (Lane) |
