| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: The mating studies with the cocked mutant (co) have proceeded. Based on a re-examination of otolith material with transmitted polarized light, a consistent defect is present in the utricular otolith only. It is either the presence of one or more distinctively large utricular crystals or the total absence of utricular material. Using this characteristic as the definition of cocked, the analysis of F1, F2, and BC progeny suggests that this defect is caused by a simple autosomal recessive gene. Linkage analysis with open eyelids (oe) which was segregating in the BC progeny, suggests that co is closely linked with oe in linkage group VII. One of the two recombinant classes was not recovered in the 96 BC progeny examined. Further studies are in progress to investigate this missing class and to map co. (Peterson and Biddle). |
