| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 5. Cystic kidneys (ck). A new recessive mutation found in C57BL/6J-pa stock causes polycystic kidneys in homozygotes. The condition, always bilateral, becomes apparent at approximately 8 or 9 days of age, when the abdomen becomes enlarged, and becomes terminal at approximately 19 days of age. Penetrance is high. The excised kidneys measure approximately 1 cm X 2 cm at 16 days; cross-sections show them to be uniformly spongy throughout. This mutation is not linked to pa, nor is it sex-linked.
