abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: New Mutations: 1. Head bleb (heb). A new recessive mutation found in inbred strain AKR/J causes blebs on the head. The blebs are apparent at 12 to 14 days of gestation as blisters filled with clear fluid. By 15 to 16 days of gestation the blebs are filled with blood. Blebs were found on the head of 81% of 12 to 19 day fetuses. These blebs were usually located on the nose, or on or near the eye. Penetrance is reduced and there is some fetal death (19/104) of affected animals. Open eye-lids were found in 97% of 17 to 19 day affected fetuses, and most newborns have open eyelids. Affected adults can be recognized by the absence of one or both eyes. No abnormalities of the skin or hair have been observed and few abnormalities of the feet (8 fetuses out of 85 had extra digits and 1 fetuses out of 85 had a bleb on the foot). Head bleb is similar to but not allelic with my and eb. Linkage tests are in progress. (Varnum and S. Fox). |
