abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: 2. Tip-toe walking (ttw). We started inbreeding to establish inbred strains from the .Jcl:ICR outbred colony in 1976. In 1978, four (two males and two females) out of 10 mice (one litter) of a line showed a smaller body size than the litter mates and tip-toe walking 19 to 21 days after birth with stiffening of the body. This mutant was named TWY, taking letters from both tiptoe walking which characterized this mutant and the family name of the founder, Yoshimura. The cause of this disease was studied and reported by Hosoda et. al. (1981). A mating experiment was carried out to study inheritance of this disease. The results shown in Table 2 indicated that this disease was governed by an autosomal recessive gene. We named this gene ttw (tiptoe walking). Coat color is white, and the genotype is A/A B/B c/c D/D. At present this strain is in the 23rd generation. Reference: Hosoda, Y., Yoshimura, Y., and Higaki, S. (1981).
