| abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: Linkage Data: 1. Further linkage data on situs inversus, iv. Brueckner et al. (1989, PNAS 86: 5035-8) reported the mapping of iv to chromosome 12. Some further data have been obtained from linkage backcrosses, with iv and Aat. Homozygous iv/iv animals, genetically Aatc/Aatc, were crossed to DBA/2 (Aata/Aata) and the offspring were backcrossed to the iv stock. Offspring were classified for iv at birth, by observation of the position of the stomach on left or right side, and for the Aat allele by electrophoretic tests on blood at age 6-8 weeks. The data from the + Aata/iv Aatc x iv Aatc/iv Aatc backcross were + Aata 52; + Aatc 23; iv Aata 2; iv Aatc 13. If the penetrance of iv is assumed to be 50% there is a shortage of iv offspring, assumed to be due to decreased viability. Allowing for both incomplete penetrance and reduced viability of iv, the recombination, estimated by the maximum likelihood method, is 13.3 +/- 8.8%. This is in good agreement with Brueckner et al.'s estimate of a map distance of 11 cM between Aat and iv. Negative linkage data were obtained between iv and a, b, cch, s, se, wa-1, Ra, Re, Sd, We, Eso, Os, Slgbh, Tw, Va, Xt, Ca, T, md, ep, fz, ln, v. (Lyon, Glenister, Papworth, Peters and Ball). |
