abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Hydrancephaly: A series of autopsy examinations of pregnant mice of one of the closed colonies used for testing DDT's mutagenicity (MNL 44, 18) has revealed the segregation of a hydrancephalus condition. At 16 days of pregnancy the ratio of normal to hydrancephalus individuals in 13 segregating litters is 8:1. In a previous generation of this stock, classified after birth, dead young were found in which the top of the head was eaten off. These are now suspected of being the hydrancephalus individuals, indicating that the condition is lethal at birth. In 5 segregating litters the ratio of normal to possibly hydrancephalus individuals is 6:1. Current work involves classification at birth using cages designed specifically for this purpose, having a false floor of wire mesh with a preservative below into which the litter falls. Further investigation will include linkage testing. The symbol hn is proposed. (Knights)
