abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: New Mutants and Biochemical Variants: 5. Alpha thalassemia (Hbath-J). Among the progeny of a C57BL/6J female and a triethylenemelamine-treated male, we found one Hbbd /Hbbs male which had proportions of major, minor, and single hemoglobins similar to those of the Oak Ridge X-ray induced alpha thalassemics. Segregation of the mutation from Hbb further suggests alpha locus (Hba) involvement. The mutant male and his mutant descendants have microcytosis, erythrocytosis, low blood hemoglobin levels, and a low body weight. We are attempting to transfer the mutation onto C57BL/6J, SEC/1ReJ, and DBA/2J backgrounds. (Whitney, J.B. and Russell) |
